Matthew 5:13-20
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE

We continue with the sermon on the Mount. Jesus had pronounced blessings on the unfortunate and blessings for those who exhibit virtues of Kingdom living, those who are merciful, peacemakers and pure-hearted.

Jesus continues by saying you are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world. The verbs Jesus uses are not imperatives as to command us to become salt and light. They are indicative which means you ARE the salt of the earth. You ARE the light of the world.

When Jesus says you, it is second person plural. Which means Jesus is addressing a community. That community is called the church. The church is made up of individuals the Bible describes as living stones of the church. So Jesus describes the church as being the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Join us today as we consider the implications of that status for us today.
